The Technical Group Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the integrity, consistency, and compliance of the Group’s financial reporting, offering the opportunity to apply technical knowledge in a commercial, decision-focused environment. This role is ideal for a candidate transitioning from accountancy practice, bringing strong technical expertise across UK GAAP, VAT, and corporation tax.

The post holder will support the Group Accounting function by providing technical guidance, reviewing complex accounting treatments, and ensuring compliance across a multi-entity environment. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and apply accounting standards to real-world business scenarios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical accounting support across the Group, including interpretation and application of FRS 102 with knowledge of IFRS standards.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of statutory accounts for multiple UK entities.
  • Research and document accounting positions for complex transactions.
  • Support the year-end and audit process.
  • Review balance sheets and key judgements.
  • Act as the internal SME on VAT, providing guidance on complex and non-routine transactions (e.g. intercompany recharges, international supplies, digital services).
  • Oversee and review VAT returns and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness across the Group.
  • Drive improvements in VAT processes, documentation, and controls, ensuring best practice across the Group.
  • Support the preparation and review of corporation tax computations, working closely with external advisors as required.
  • Identify and support tax planning opportunities in partnership with advisors and senior finance stakeholders.
  • Strengthen and maintain accounting policy and tax position documentation
  • Support implementation of new accounting standards.
  • Identify improvements to reporting processes and controls.

Key Requirements

Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge across FRS 102 and/or IFRS.
  • Understanding of VAT and corporation tax fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Recently qualified or finalist (ACA / ACCA), ideally trained in accountancy practice.
  • Experience preparing or auditing statutory accounts under FRS 102 and/or IFRS.
  • Exposure to group structures, consolidations, or multi-entity environments is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of VAT and corporation tax compliance.
  • Experience liaising with auditors and preparing supporting documentation.
  • Familiarity with financial systems and strong Excel skills is advantageous.
